Wood High Chair
Welcome to our website. Here you’ll find lots of information on different wood high chairs and learn some of the benefits of such chairs. We’ll also cover high chair accessories that will be helpful for you and your baby.
Wood high chairs are becoming more popular again, and for good reason. They are a timeless, classy piece of furniture for you and your baby. A wood high chair looks beautiful and compliments your home – it doesn’t look like a clunky piece of baby equipment.
If you choose a high-quality wood high chair you’ll be able to use it through several babies, and even pass it down to your grandchildren. You’ll also rest easily knowing this new heirloom item is made to the highest safety standards.
Today’s wooden baby seats offer a lot of versatility. You can use them for years and they have many convenient features. Here are some to look for:
A cushioned seat. Look for a washable cushion that goes well with the decor in your dining room. I personally prefer a cloth seat pad that can be thrown in the wash to a plastic, wipe-clean pad. The cloth seat pad requires slightly more work (you do have to put it in the washer). But the overall beauty of the wood high chair is enhanced by the attractive, classic fabric… plastic just doesn’t have the same beauty!
You do want to choose a wood that is made to wipe clean. Simply lift up the high chair pad and wipe away any spilled food or drink. The finish should be well-made so it can stand wiping. As you know, babies can be messy!
There are many color varieties in these high chairs so you can pick a classic stain to match your home.
One of the best advances in high chair design (I suppose it’s an “advance!”) is the plastic tray. Yes, for all the beauty of the wood, you want a plastic tray because lets face it, it’s going to get really messy. Plastic is easy to wash.
My baby’s wood high chair has a full plastic tray in an attractive ivory color that compliments the dark cherry stain. It also has an plastic insert on the top of the tray. This snaps out to go in the dishwasher, or to be easily rinsed off in the sink. I really like this feature.
There is a variation of this that I like even better than my high chair (and I would pick this if I were buying another wooden highchair.) This is a wooden tray like on the classic high chair – but there’s a plastic insert that goes onto that tray. You still get the benefits of the plastic tray, but when you’re not at the table you can keep the insert stored away and let the real beauty of a wood high chair shine.
Also look for a high chair that has at least a 3-point harness to keep your baby safe. I like 3-point harnesses because they keep the baby secure, but they don’t get quite as grimy as 5-point harnesses. If you have a very active baby, or a special needs baby, you might want a model with a 5-point harness for safety.
I also prefer my wood high chair to have a guard in the middle, between baby’s legs. Some chairs have this built into the chair and some have it as part of the tray. Whichever it has is fine – but you want this feature because it keeps baby from slipping out under the tray!
Highchairs with a removable tray are wonderful into toddlerhood – just remove the tray and slide your little one right up to the table!
Enjoy the the beauty and function of a wood high chair for years – even generations – to come!
